Professional & Affordable Workshops For Web People
Learning from the web is one thing but being in a room with a leading light from the industry with other like minded people is infinitely better. Unfortunately this normally comes at a hefty price and requires you to travel and pay for accommodation.
Our Approach
We believe that it is time for a change and intend to start hosting professional workshops, given by experts, put on in modern venues around the UK for around a £100 - £125 depending on venue, considerably cheaper than most. We do not currently charge VAT although this may, unfortunately, change in the future.
Workshops
Starting in November 2007 in our home town of Leicester and using the Leicester Creative Business Depot's Courtyard Room we hope to put a fresh spin on the workshop for a price we can all afford.
Over the next 12 months we are looking to develop workshops that deal with the hot topics of today's web. These include:
- CSS - Modern techniques for a modern web
- Javascript - Including AJAX and HIJAX
- Frameworks - Both server side and client side
- Better Web Development - Tools and techniques to help today's developers work better
Educational & Fun
Whilst we want you to get the most out of our workshops as possible we also want them to be fun and interactive. We envisage a typical workshop starting at 10am, with registration and coffee from 9am, and running through until 5pm. Lunch and refreshments throughout the day will be provided with a strong possibility of a trip to a local hostelry afterwards.
The Team
"Workshops For Web People" is run by web developer Keir Whitaker and his colleague Glenn Badham. Keir runs a small web development company called Metrofiftyfive based in East London. Glenn is a professional artist of 13 years.
Together they run also small company called Doors Opening Limited from an office in Leicester's LCB Depot. In early 2007 they launched their first online service for artists.

This site is held together by a set of in house developed PHP5 classes affectionately dubbed "Platform 55". This also helps other sites like www.cliveshalicephotography.com and www.doorsopening.net reach your browser.
We use EventWax to handle our events. This is a great free service which makes putting on an event a breeze. For payment we use trusty PayPal. Of course you don't need to have a PayPal account to book your tickets, just a valid credit or debit card.
